Travel with friends: Istanbul 2013
We will celebrate in May 2013 the second Gay Love Spirit workshop in Istanbul. It will be a shorter edition of last year’s travel with friends, this to allow also people with more busy schedules to participate in this unique venture. Join and get a glimpse of what this buzzing and totally exiting metropolis has to offer! In the 20th Century many people had the impression of Istanbul being just another poor and oversized city, but it can't be more wrong right now. It's completely at the forefront of arts, design, food, creating a unique cultural blend and yet distinctively Turkish. Once the core of the Ottoman empire, Istanbul is rapidly regaining its reputation as one of the most important centers of the world. And of course, its men have a reputation...
Turkey has an interesting history of secularization, ethnic complexity and different attitudes towards sexuality. Turkey and especially Istanbul had always a tradition of sex between men, dating back to Ottoman times. This isn't as evident in today’s society with a booming, yet struggling GLBT movement that organized several successful gay prides and several clubs allover the city.
The core of this trip is the weekend workshop, an introduction for both Turkish and Western gay men into the world of Gay Love Spirit, or a further integration for those who have played with us before.
Before the weekend we’ll have three days to explore what Istanbul has to offer. Guaranteed you won’t get bored, even if you stay the rest of your life. Plenty of choice to pleasure everyone. For sure we’ll bring you to the Sultanahmet with the Aya Sofia, its famous mosques and the magic bazars. Besides of that, we’ll give you a good idea of the city’s potential, including the gay life.
The aim of this trip is to travel with an open mind and heart. As gay men who had to fight for recognition and wish to explore our sexuality and identity on wider level, we should be open to the struggles and desires of others. We take the challenge to enjoy our trip to its full extent.
